Hours after the President delivered his State of the Union address, a porn star
Stormy Daniels proved evasive when quizzed about her alleged relationship with Donald Trump.
During an appearance on popular talk show Jimmy Kimmel Live, the adult film actress - real name Stephanie Clifford - appeared to suggest she had not approved a fresh denial of the alleged affair.
Prior to President Trump's speech to Congress on Tuesday, a statement released in Daniels' name read: "Over the past few weeks I have been asked countless times to comment on reports of an alleged sexual relationship I had with Donald Trump many, many, many years ago.
"The fact of the matter is that each party to this alleged affair denied its existence in 2006, 2011, 2016, 2017 and now again in 2018.
"I am not denying this affair because I was paid 'hush money' as has been reported in overseas-owned tabloids.
"I am denying it because it never happened."
The statement ended with a plug for Daniels' Instagram account.
However, when asked on the show whether she had signed the statement, Daniels replied: "I don't know, did I? That does not look like my signature, does it?"
Asked if the statement was written and released without her approval, Daniels laughed.
"I do not know where it came from. It came from the internet," she added. "I also work for the FBI and I am a man, according to the internet today."
Daniels also remained coy on whether she was subject to a non-disclosure agreement, merely replying: "Do I?"
When it was suggested she could freely deny having a non-disclosure agreement if she had not signed one, Daniels told the host: "You're so smart, Jimmy."
American celebrity magazine In Touch Weekly recently published a transcript of a 2011 interview, which includes an apparent revelation by Daniels that she had sex with Mr Trump after meeting him at a charity golf tournament in 2006.
President Donald Trump has been married to his third and current wife, Melania, since 2005.
Asked whether she had conducted the 2011 interview, Daniels told Jimmy Kimmel Live: "Not as it is written."
She added she had not seen the whole transcript, in which it is claimed Daniels found Mr Trump to be "obsessed" and "terrified" of sharks.
Questioned as to whether any of the details of the interview are true, Daniels said: "Define true."
And asked if she felt guilt towards Mrs Trump, Daniels said: "I feel guilt towards my family because my daughter has been exposed to things."
Later on during the programme, Daniels replied affirmatively - via a puppet in a game of "Never Have I Ever" - to suggestions she has previously had sex with a married man at a golf tournament, or watched TV show Shark Week in a hotel room with the host of a reality show.
The White House has previously dismissed "old, recycled reports" about Mr Trump's supposed affair and claims Daniels was paid $130,000 (£92,000) to stay silent, allegations described as having been "strongly denied prior to the election".
Donald Trump's lawyer has also issued a denial of an affair with the adult film star.
During Tuesday's State of the Union address, Mrs Trump made her first public appearance since the Wall Street Journal reported Daniels' alleged non-disclosure agreement.
The First Lady travelled separately from the President to the set piece occasion, with the couple having travelled together to Mr Trump's previous speech to Congress last year.
